With a collection previously held in numerous storage facilities, this 14,000 sf, ground-up building brings an avid art collector’s works under one roof for the first time. Storage, art handling and cataloging facilities, and ample exhibition and viewing rooms allow the entire collection to be managed, accessed, and exhibited at the client’s Litchfield County property. Sky-lit galleries are clad in walls of locally quarried stone, resonating with stonewalls used throughout the region to delineate property lines. Two white washed cedar boxes provide additional exhibition and viewing rooms while a large sculpture terrace and additional support spaces accommodate large events and exhibition openings.
